Vice President Buquel shared a video of the prisoner transfer in a tweet and wrote in Spanish, ‘Today at dawn, in a single operation, we transferred the first 2,000 gang members to the Center for Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT). On Friday morning, about 2,000 suspects belonging to various gangs were transferred to a prison with a capacity of 40,000 people. It is considered to be the largest prison in the Americas (North America, South America). In a video posted by Bokel, inmates wearing white shorts with shaved heads can be seen running from the new prison to their cells.

El Salvador’s populist leader, Vice Buquel, has been engaged in a highly controversial year-long ‘war’ against the country’s notorious gangs, and as a result a significant number of various gang members are now in prison.
