According to the US authorities, the staff of the media organization had arrived there to report on an incident of firing at the same place. Police say there is a single suspected gunman involved in the shootings
A shooting occurred on Wednesday in the Orange County of the famous city of Orlando, Florida, on the staff of a media organization, who went there to cover a shooting incident that happened in the same place on the same day.
Broadcaster Spectrum News 13 says one of its reporters and a photographer were shot at, resulting in one person being killed. According to Orange County Sheriff John Mena, the TV reporter was killed in the incident.
Sheriff John Mena told reporters in a press briefing that a woman and her 9-year-old daughter were shot inside a home at the same location on Wednesday. He further said that the girl died on the spot and the condition of the mother is critical.
According to reports, the gunman escaped from the spot after the first firing incident and then after some time he returned to the same spot and started firing again.
“It is not clear whether he (the suspect) knew that he was from the media or not,” John Meena said about the shooting incident at the media personnel. The ‘news van’ of the media was also not easily identifiable.
The man responsible for the shooting has been identified as a 19-year-old man, who was later taken into custody. Sheriff John Mena said the motive behind the shooting is still unclear.
Addressing reporters, he said, “I work with all of you and know many of you.” It’s also known that you do very difficult and important jobs for our community and law enforcement.”
“No one in our community should ever be a victim of gun violence,” she added, “be it a mother, a nine-year-old child, and certainly a news professional.”
Meena said that earlier on the same day, a 20-year-old woman was also shot dead. He said that the same gunman was involved in all these shooting incidents. The suspect has been formally charged in connection with the earlier shooting and is expected to be charged later in the remaining incidents, the sheriff said.
