Kiev (Daily Pakistan Online) US President Joe Biden paid an unannounced visit to the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Monday and promised President Volodymyr Zelensky that the US will stand by Ukraine until the end. Although there were no reports of Russian missiles or airstrikes, the sirens continued to sound while the US president was in Kiev.
According to the news agency Reuters, Biden praised the bravery of the Ukrainians for resisting the Russian invasion, saying, “When Putin launched his invasion almost a year ago, he thought that Ukraine was weak and the West was divided.” He thought he could outrun us. But he was wrong. The price Ukraine has paid is extraordinarily high, the sacrifices have been high, we know there will be difficult days, weeks and years ahead.’
On the sidelines of the visit, the US president pledged another $500 million worth of weapons, including artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems and air defense radars. He also announced to impose strict sanctions on Russia. On the occasion, Zelensky told Biden that his visit was “a very important sign of support for all Ukrainians.”
