Incredibly, a girl was saved alive in Turkey. 248 hours after the earthquake that struck on Monday, February 6, a heartbreaking scene was witnessed in the south-central region of Turkey, ‘Kurman Merash’, when a 17-year-old girl was pulled alive from a collapsed building.
More than 40,000 people have died in this devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. 10 days after the earthquake, the girl was pulled out alive, experts have called it unusual. In this context, a member of the Turkish medical aid teams explained that people buried under the rubble can usually live for five days. He added that anything beyond five days is considered miraculous and extraordinary.
As Deniz Geyser, an internist at a hospital in Mersin, Turkey, said, the biggest problem in survival is the cold. But some patients remained in closed areas and were therefore able to survive in small and confined spaces under buildings. Apart from this, water was also present in some of these places. A day ago, 9 days after the earthquake in Kharman Marash, two women were pulled alive from the rubble near the epicenter, one of these women was 74 years old. Earlier on the same day, a 46-year-old woman was rescued in a town near the epicenter.
It should be remembered that the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 36,000. This number was announced on Thursday by the Emergency Management Authority and said that 36 thousand 187 people have been killed by the earthquake in Turkey so far. One lakh 8 thousand 68 people have been injured due to the earthquake. More than 4.3 thousand aftershocks have been recorded in the region.
