The US Air Force diverted 4 Russian fighter jets near the state of Alaska.

Washington (Daily Pakistan Online) The US Air Force surrounded four Russian fighter jets flying near the state of Alaska and forced them to turn around. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORD) posted a statement on Twitter on Tuesday, saying the incident occurred on February 13 when the Russian aircraft were ‘identified, tracked and positively identified’. These include TU-95 BEAR-H bombers and SU-35 fighter jets, the agency added in the statement. Although the aircraft were operating within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), they remained in international airspace.

“Nord was aware of this Russian activity and was prepared to stop it,” the statement said. Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace. This Russian activity in North America is regular and is not viewed as a threat, nor is this activity considered provocative.’

According to Fox News, since 2007, the US has regularly diverted Russian aircraft to the area six to seven times a year.
