A local court in Islamabad on Tuesday decided to indict former Prime Minister Imran Khan on February 7 in the Toshah Khana reference.

Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal of a court in Islamabad ordered the indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Tosha Khana reference on February 7. The court also ordered the former Prime Minister of Pakistan to submit a bond of Rs 20,000.
The court, while hearing the criminal proceedings case in the Tosha Khana reference, asked lawyer Ali Bukhari that where is the power of attorney from PTI chairman Imran Khan? On the other hand, the lawyer of the Election Commission of Pakistan argued that the power of attorney cannot be given until Imran Khan himself comes to the court. Ali Bukhari said that during the last hearing of the court, the medical certificate of Imran Khan was presented according to which he is not fit to appear in the court.
The court had personally summoned Imran Khan to the court on Tuesday but he did not appear. The lawyer of the Election Commission requested the court to issue an arrest warrant against the PTI chairman in his absence. The court ordered lawyer Ali Bukhari to submit Imran Khan’s lawyer letter to the court.
What is the matter?
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had filed a reference against former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the court last year, in which the court was requested to declare the gifts received by Imran Khan from important foreign personalities as the Prime Minister. Regarding what happened, they misled the authorities so action should be taken against them under criminal laws.
The ECP five-member bench chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja had disqualified former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Tosha Khana case on October 21 citing constitutional provisions.
The Election Commission of Pakistan in its brief decision said that Imran Khan is guilty of corruption, therefore he is disqualified under Article 63P of the Constitution. In this decision, an order was also given to start legal proceedings against Imran Khan.
