Washington (Daily Pakistan Online) Popular Chinese video app TikTok has been banned from all devices managed by the US House of Representatives. According to the House administration, the ban was imposed in imitation of the law banning the app from US government devices.
The Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives has said in a message sent to all lawmakers and staff members that TikTok is a huge security risk and should be uninstalled from all devices.
The new regulation comes in the wake of the US government’s move to ban the installation of TikTok on official devices. As of last week, 19 states had blocked the app from state-run devices in part over concerns that the Chinese government could use the app to track Americans and censor content.
The $1.66 trillion omnibus spending bill passed last week to fund the US government through September 30, 2023 includes a provision to ban the app on federally managed devices, according to Reuters. It will take effect after President Joe Biden signs the legislation into law.
