The niece of Iran’s supreme leader was sentenced to three years in prison

Tehran (Daily Pakistan Online) The niece of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been sentenced to three years in prison. Farida Moradkhani is a critic of the Iranian government and was arrested in November after she announced her support for the ongoing anti-government protests across Iran. He also demanded the international community to sever ties with Tehran.

According to Muradkhani’s lawyer, Mohammad Hossein Agassi, his client was initially sentenced to 15 years in prison, but the sentence was reduced after an appeal. There is a body independent of the country’s judiciary that is tasked with prosecuting clerics and answerable only to the Supreme Leader. Muradkhani’s lawyer explained that this court has no jurisdiction over his client’s case as he is not a scholar. The attorney did not say what his client was charged with, and authorities have not commented on the case.

Moradkhani has been arrested twice earlier this year and in 2018 for criticizing the government. Earlier this week, Badri Hosseini Khamenei, Muradkhani’s mother and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s sister, also announced her opposition to her brother’s regime, calling on the military to “go too late.” Support the protestors before.
