Shooting at an LGBTQ club in America, several people were killed

On Saturday night, a gunman opened fire at an LGBTQ nightclub in the city of Colorado Springs in the American state of Colorado. Police say at least five people were killed and 18 injured in the attack.

The attack took place at Club Q. The nightclub describes itself as a “female and male gay nightclub, hosting theme nights such as karaoke and DJs.” It was reported that Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro said at a news conference that a suspect was arrested at the scene.

During a press conference later, police said the suspect was a 22-year-old youth, who was armed with a “long rifle.” He started shooting soon after entering an LGBTQ club. Two “brave” clubgoers intervened to stop the gunman, police said.

“At least two brave individuals inside the club tackled the suspect and were able to fight and prevent the suspect from hitting and harming others,” Police Chief Adrian Vasquez told reporters.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack. Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers praised those who tried to stop the gunman, saying “their actions clearly saved lives.”
