Voting for the new government in Nepal, Oli or Deuba, who will win?

Kathmandu: Voting for the election of new representatives in the Parliament and seven provincial assemblies in Nepal began on Sunday ie today. The voting started at 7 am local time. Long queues of voters were seen at some polling stations. Around 1,798,570 voters will elect 275 members of the Lok Sabha and 550 members of the seven provincial assemblies.

Election Commission Deputy Spokesperson Surya Ariel said that the voting process has started peacefully across the country and we hope that polling will continue peacefully throughout the day. Meanwhile, some voters said they were excited about the opportunity to elect qualified candidates for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies through voting.

“I am voting with the hope that the elected representative will work for the betterment of our region,” said Jeevan Khatri (41) of Shahrbhaktpur in Kathmandu Valley. A mixed electoral system has been adopted in Nepal. Under this, 60 percent of the total 275 members of the Federal Parliament will be elected through the first-past-the-post system. And 40 percent of the members will be elected through the proportional electoral system.

2412 candidates are in the fray for 165 seats in the lower house under the first-past-the-post system and 2199 candidates for 110 seats under the proportional representation system. Similarly, 3224 candidates are in the fray for 330 seats of seven provincial assemblies under the first-past-the-post system and 3708 candidates for 220 seats under the proportional representation system.

In this election, the ruling coalition Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) formed a five-party electoral alliance for the elections, while the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), the largest opposition party, won some seats. Has joined hands with others. With observers from some countries monitoring the election, voting will close at 5pm local time.
