4 Kenyan police officers arrested for killing 3 civilians

Nairobi (Monitoring Desk) 4 Kenyan police officers were arrested for killing 3 civilians. According to private TV channel “24News”, the four officers belonged to a notorious Kenyan police unit known for extrajudicial killings. The officers of the Special Service Unit (SSU) are accused of killing 3 civilians by entering their house, whose bodies have not been recovered till date.

Out of the 3 people killed, two belonged to India. After killing the three people, the police officers looted the cash and valuables from their house. In the charge sheet presented against them in the court, it is stated that they disposed of the bodies of the victims in the forests of the National Park, one and a half hundred kilometers from the capital, Nairobi.

It should be noted that after the brutal murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya, the Kenyan police has become a topic of discussion in Pakistan. The role of the Kenyan police as a hired killer is not hidden from anyone. The Kenyan police have also been accused of using hired killers to kill activists, lawyers and others who were investigating them.

The Independent Policing Oversite Authority, a civilian organization, said it was conducting an audit of the SSU on a priority basis. Apart from this, investigation is also being conducted against the officers and personnel of this unit. This civilian organization was established by the Kenyan Parliament in 2011 to oversee the police.
